Pinnaderm
Pinnaderm are a biotechnology company developing a range of solutions to support the environment and health.
This project looked at how Brewery waste and by products from brewing can support the growth of microalgae to capture carbon. Brewery by-products are rich in carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus and provide opportunities for capture carbon, performing better than most crops. This has the potential to save on cost by not needing all the growth media, while also reducing the disposal costs for waste suppliers. An action plan and process was developed which considered reviewing local breweries and analysing capacity and cost of disposal. This includes what needs to be installed at the brewery to optimise the by-product and at what cost. Innovation Net Zero was able to support Pinnaderm to understand the value proposition and consider opportunities that brewery waste can provide for cost reduction and valorisation.
