Innovation Net Zero: Our story so far
It’s been just over 6 months since our novel programme, Innovation Net Zero, launched in Carmarthenshire and the Vale of Glamorgan. Since then, we have supported many local Welsh businesses on their journey to a more sustainable future.
Innovation Net Zero offers fully funded support from business, innovation, sustainability, and technology experts for local businesses. The world-class partnership behind Innovation Net Zero brings together our team Innovation Strategy, local sustainability experts Afallen, and the multinational BT. The programme fosters collaboration, supports business development and drives the adoption of green solutions to promote growth.
Innovation Net Zero funding has supported the growth of a wide range of businesses across Carmarthenshire and the Vale of Glamorgan. Grounds for Good are building a circular economy by preventing coffee grounds going to waste and are developing an innovative way to turn them into biochar. Cellular Agriculture are scaling up their unique cultivated protein technology to enable the transition to a sustainable food system and LUNA TIDES productions are looking for ways to make the Welsh film and TV industry greener. For more examples of businesses that have received Innovation Net Zero Funding head to our case studies page.
The programme was designed by Innovation Strategy to address national and local policy objectives. Innovation Net Zero supports the goals of the Wellbeing for Future Generations Act (2015) and the Future Wales plan through contributing to sustainable development. Through supporting green business growth Innovation Net Zero is working to create a prosperous and resilient Wales. Innovation Net Zero is also supporting Wales to achieve net zero by 2050 through enabling businesses to exploit their net zero or circular economy concept.
Innovation Net Zero supports the priorities established in Carmarthenshire’s Economic Recovery and Delivery Plan by protecting jobs, safeguarding businesses, and contributing to business growth. It also supports the aims of the Southwest Regional Economic Delivery Plan and exploits opportunities identified in the Innovation Prospects for Carmarthenshire by enabling local businesses to exploit their net zero concepts. In the Vale of Glamorgan Innovation Net Zero supports the council’s Economic Growth Strategy and Project Zero, established in the Climate Change Challenge Plan, by enabling businesses to decarbonise and reduce waste whilst promoting a green recovery. The programme is also closely aligned with the goals of the Cardiff Capital Region, bringing investment and supporting the growth of resilient businesses.
