SMARTExpertise fund collaborative R&D projects involving one (or more) Welsh research organisation, and more than one industrial partner, with the aim to grow a demand driven Research, Development and Innovation environment.
SMARTCymru offer financial support and advice to SMEs and start up businesses, at all phases of a research and development project, from initial feasibility to market exploitation.
SMART Partnerships fund innovative collaboration projects that require a range of expertise to help businesses grow, improve productivity and increase competitiveness.
SMARTInnovation provide advice and specialist support to businesses taking their first steps into innovation and R&D.
Collaborative Research and Innovation Support
(CRISP)
The Collaborative Research and Innovation Support Programme (CRISP) is a fund intended to stimulate the capacity of organisations in Wales to participate in new Collaborative Research and Development. The scheme is available to all Welsh organisations (SMEs, Large Companies, FE institutions, HE institutions and Public Sector Organisations) that are operating within the priority sectors and have capacity in their Welsh site to participate in the proposed project.

Funding is available for up to 50% of eligible costs, up to a maximum of £5,000.
Innovation Vouchers
Innovation Vouchers can help part-fund innovation activity up to £25,000 in a 12-month period enabling your business to:

Knowledge Transfer Partnership
(KTP)
KTP facilitates the transfer of academic knowledge and expertise to real life business strategic projects. Part funded by Government, the scheme is a unique opportunity for academic and business collaboration.
The KTP scheme helps businesses to innovate and grow. It does this by linking them with a Research Organisation and a graduate to work on a specific project.
The KTP Scheme is led by Innovate UK and funded by 13 government organisations including the Welsh Government. The Welsh Government support projects that are innovative and imaginative in scope, have commercial potential and provide economic and social benefit to Wales.
Supporting Collaborative Research & Innovation in Europe (SCoRE Cymru)
SCoRE Cymru provides financial support for Wales-based organisations looking to access research and innovation programmes such as Horizon 2020. This includes:

Travel costs associated with meeting potential or existing partners and attending key events (up to £1,000 per trip)

Proposal development costs, including bid writing, specific legal/technical advice or impact/market research (up to £10,000)
The Welsh Government’s business support is focused on 9 sectors: ICT, Energy and environment, Advanced materials and manufacturing, Creative industries, Life sciences, Financial and professional services, Construction, Food and Farming and Tourism.
Small Business Research Initiative
(SBRI)
SBRI is a well established process to connect public sector challenges with innovative ideas from industry, supporting companies to generate economic growth and enabling improvement in achieving government objectives.
SBRI provides innovative solutions to challenges faced by the public sector, leading to better public services and improved efficiency and effectiveness. It generates new business opportunities for companies, provides small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) a route to market for their ideas and bridges the seed funding gap experienced by many early stage companies. It supports economic growth and enables the development of innovative products and services through the public procurement of research and development (R&D).
